Two principles: freedom of speech and rule of law. Everybody has freedom of speech. But the ultimate way to solve a problem like this, is by rule of law.

Freedom comes with responsibility. At her position, he needs to be extra careful in exercising his freedom of speech, because as an anchorman of the state broadcaster, he has every possibility being accused of abusing the 4th power, i.e. the power of media.

Why not appeal to our own gov't? Because it's an inefficient way, isn't it? But does that justify the anger towards Starbucks? After all, it's the gov't's responsibility to make and enforce laws in protect things in public domain, including culture heritages. Starbucks is only a company. What concerns a companies CEO most is the profitability of his/her corporate machinary - that's what the person is paid for. Social responsibilities? Sounds good, but not really.
Does anyone remember the other incident?
Any foreign scapegoat? No. The fenqings keep their silence.
Any lesson learnt? No. Splendid Chinese culture heritages continue to be mismanaged by whatever officials.
Need I say more?
Chinese bueacrats have long enjoyed the fame of being irresponsive (irresponsible really, but I'm not going ahead on this one). Now that this Chinese state anchorman not only substantiated that stereotype, but the Chinese netizens also earned Chinese mass an name of being unreasonable.
How great was that?
p.s. didn't pay much attention to the anchor. Thanks to Phil for pointing out his gender to me.
