Indeed, I think the US media have been pretty decent not reporting the gunman's identity or ethnical background. In a tragic event like this, it's all too easy blaming someone innocent. By directing the public attention to particular ethnical group does not solve any problem, but can incite enormous hatred. The Americans must have learnt their lessons in history. Admittedly, a lot of them don't. But in any society, there are always people who never get it. They're just too lazy or stupid or both to use their brains. What can you do with it?

As we have seen so far, Virginia Tech is taking blame from everywhere for not closing down the campus quick enough. To be honest, this is not fair. In a country campus shooting is the norm, asking VT to close down their huge campus in such a short time is easy said than done. But I guess people just wanted to blame someone. VT just happened to be the convenient scapegoat.

If, however, it was proven in the next few days, that the shooter had been a Chinese, it would be a very bad news. But I don't think the OFFICIAL immigration policy of the US would change to penalize the Chinese. This is an isolated incident, happened in a gun crime ridden US of A. Maybe the kid had played too much video games. Maybe he had been brainwashed by some Jehovah Witness. Maybe he had been bullied by some brat out there. This is typical American style campus shooting. We don't shoot people like that in China, do we? But this will inevitably lower the (already faint) rational voices from the people who sympathize Chinese immigrants.

In the UK, in my opinion, it would be too early to worry about government policies and public image of the Chinese. Sentiment of the masses are very different here than in the US and if the Home Office wants to do something nasty, they don't need this as an excuse. Sigh...

首先是chicago sun-times这个小报纸说是江姓，上海的f1。
这个消息一发布，msn立即跟进，然后中新社也跟进，中新社的跟进，忍了半天的sina，sohu，也立即跟进，然后是qq也跟进，最后cctv的网站也跟进。

sun-times说是那个叫江伟恩的男子，是因为blog显示他为枪迷，感情挫折，vt学生。

但是提取的凶手指纹查不出来，这就说明肯定不是大陆上海去年f1的，因为那个时候我们得留指纹。

其次江伟恩的英文名为chiang,这个用法只有台湾人才用，

大陆人一定会用jiang，香港人一定是用kong。

而现在这个江伟恩已经站出来辟谣，这样一路追回去，虽然没有一定排除是中国人(其实大家估计默认这个词=大陆人，不要有人太较真)，但是至少是说明目前sina和sohu都是乱来。
