Canary Wharf will be centre stage for one of the most impressive fireworks displays in East London. The fireworks displays will not be taking place on Bonfire Night but they will be combining a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes with a celebration of the recent opening of the Clysedale Bank at Canary Wharf.
Huge fireworks displays will light up the East London skyline on Thursday 3rd November. The fireworks displays take place at Riverside, Canary Wharf at 5.45pm for a 6pm start and are choreographed by the company responsible for the VJ display on the Thames.
Admission to the fireworks displays is free and as an extra special touch sparklers will be distributed throughout the crowd, free of charge.

Guy Fawkes London
Celebrate the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes in London
Guy Fawkes Night returns to London with a landmark anniversary event this year, celebrating 400 years since Guy Fawkes famously attempted to destroy Parliament (the heart of political London) with gunpowder, treason and plot.
The Gunpowder Plot
In 1605 a group of conspirators devised a plot to destroy Westminster with powerful explosives, in an attempt to devastate Parliament and kill King James I. The now infamous Gunpowder Plot was intended to strike at the heart of the political system in London and give political power to the Roman Catholics. The Gunpowder Plot was organised by a group of five conspirators including Guy Fawkes.
The conspirators packed a cellar beneath the Palace of Westminster with barrels of gunpowder, planning to blow up the Palace on 5th November 1605. However, the plan leaked and Guy Fawkes was caught red-handed in the cellars, following which he was tortured and eventually executed.
Fireworks displays to remember Guy Fawkes
Though no explosions actually took place on 5th November 1605, the historic event is traditionally celebrated each year with colourful fireworks displays on Bonfire Night, representing what could have been if Guy Fawkes had been successful. Other Guy Fawkes night traditions include the setting of bonfires and making Guy Fawkes dummies. Every year, London comes alive with light, colour and festivities to mark the occasion.
Gunpowder, treason and plot
With 400 years having passed since the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, 2005 is a particularly important year for Guy Fawkes Night celebrations. As such, special commemorative Gunpowder Plot fireworks displays will be taking place throughout London, many of which will include fairground rides, food and drink and other family attractions.

I live near Canary Wharf and am keeping wondering these days what is going on with all these fireworks.
