It depends...
house size, area, alarm facilities, neighbour watch schemes, etc etc...
get as many quotes as possible, then you will know if it's reasonable or not.

There are lots of different life cover. I will you are talking about standard life cover only that pays out the specified amount during the term.

This monthly premium does depend a lot on the amount you want to get paid out, for how long, gender, smoker or not and most importantly your age. The younger you are, the cheaper your qoute will be. Also you have to check whether the premium guaranteed (stay the same) or reviewable or unit linked. Normally it should be guaranteed.

About moving policy and switching to another company, as long as it is not investment related there is no cost in cancelling or moving the policy.

just went to HSBC again and went through the whole process since our previous MIP expired.
We were told that to cover £200k we are borrowing the life and critical illness insurance premium is £43 for my husband and £23 for myself. Is it very expensive? Any suggestions on who else to go to? (we need to have this in place by this coming saturday for the actually application).
and we are also considering the income protection, which is about £25 for each of us. I am not quite sure it is necessary. I know that the redundency protection insurance is definitely not necessary though....

如果你们是正常case, 这个已经挺贵了。便宜的记得大约１０磅左右一个人一个月。这个可以cancel掉的，没关系。等你们拿到新房也不迟。先用着它：the lender has to make sure you are fully protected before they could release the mortgage offer to you.

It depends on the amount of money you are borrowing from HSBC I think. I told them that I have life insurance already and they said I only had to buy it to sum up to our mortgage value. We are going to HSBC tomorrow to meet with their financial advisor on this issue. My current job provides some sort of life insurance plan so it would cover more than half of the mortgage amount. So I want to discuss with HSBC if I only need to get the coverage for the rest of the mortgage. They are more expensive. I checked directline online quote and the quote for myself is £10 less per month. My mom also said it's easier to just go with HSBC as our mortgage is there...
We will see. I think we will go with them for the first year too.
I don't think we will have the building insurance with them - though the quote they gave us wasn't bad. We already have content insurance with directline so we will probably have the building insurance with them as well...

our mortgage arranger did ask for building insurance and she said it was necessary and gave us a quote. But then we we got the mortgage approval letter when I glanced through it I thought I saw they do not require you to have it. I have to go back to check again!

不知道INCOME PROTECTING有没有必要?

i think it is a personal decision. I don't think it is necessary but I think my husband is leaning towards buying it. The company I am working for offers incoming protection as its benefit so I will get 2/3 of my salary if I become disabled, till I am 65. So I don't think I need to buy it. So check your company's pension plan! I didn't remember I had such benefits until I checked recently.

just curious, what's the interest rate you get from HSBC? we got 5.25% fixed for 2 years...

Building&Content可以一起买，building insurance是必须要买的。可以到QUIDCO的连接上的insurance公司quote一下，肯定比你从银行拿到的offer便宜。

Life insuarnce, Critical illiness, Income protection买不买要根据个人的case而定，不能同日而语，所以你们好好考虑一下吧。

哭，，，我们的LIFE OR CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER FOR MORTGAGE PROTECTION才是贵呢，每个月要44个胖子才COVER 100K。

主要我现在怀孕，一直呆在家里，而房子合同写的又是我们2个人的名字，肯贷款给我们的银行太少了，都只肯贷一点点给我们，根本不够，我们最少要贷100K

不晓得他们怎么想的，我们都自己首期付了60%多了，难不成还怕我们付不起，就算付不起，他们也不会亏阿。

没办法，只有找了这个ADVISER，真黑阿，，，帮我们找了个6点多的利息的一个没听说过的银行，还非缠着我们买他介绍的保险，我说太贵了，我自己上网找的便宜多了，因为我和老公才一个27，一个28，都不抽烟喝酒，没毛病，根本不需要那么贵，他就说了一大通乱七八糟的道理，反正就是用他的最好。我本来不打算理他，但老公被吓到了，就非签字了，晕死我！！！

算了，就让他们赚这半年好了，过几个月一定换！！！！！！

en, HSBC insurance is super expensive too. it was £42 for my husband covering 200k but it went up to 46k and potentially it would be even higher. for me it is £33. Geez! with car insurance, building and content insurance it is going to be almost £200/month!
directline offers £23/month for myself. I want to switch as soon as we move in!

not sure. since both of us lived outside of the UK in the last five years he said he would have to get back to us. I haven't heard from HSBC since. Is it because you lived in China in the last five years that they are checking to see if you are a hepatitis carrier?
