Solicitors are required to check the identity whoever buying a propertiy in this country. They will need to see the original passport. You friend can authorize you to sign documents on him/her behalf by creating a Power Attorney document. If the fund used to buy the property is from abroad then the solicitor will ask your friend to demonstrate that it is from ligitimate source.
