Foreign Affairs Committee: Press Notice
19 May 2008

FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE HUMAN RIGHTS ANNUAL REPORT 2007
Oral Evidence Session: His Holiness the Dalai Lama

10:30 am - Thursday 22 May 2008

The Foreign Affairs Committee will hold its third evidence session for its inquiry into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Human Rights Annual Report 2007 on Thursday 22 May at 10.30am.

It has been the Committee's practice to scrutinise the FCO's Human Rights Annual Report, focusing on issues and countries where human rights are of particular concern. The Committee has already held an evidence session with Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, as well as a separate session with Lord Malloch-Brown, the Minister responsible for Human Rights at the FCO.

Given the particular interest in China's human rights record in 2008, the Committee has requested to take oral evidence from His Holiness the Dalai Lama on a range of human rights issues during his visit to the United Kingdom this week, and His Holiness has agreed to this request.

The session will be held in the Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House and will be open to members of the press with Houses of Parliament passes and other passholders. Non-passholders from the press and public are welcome to view the session on a screen in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House.

dry.gif

visioining what they will do, if ever do it is: ask in relief work 'are you a Tibetan? no? get out...'

yeah that relief work will be very humanitarian and efficient.

Have a look and see how many times he has used “I heard…, I think…, I don’t know…” to talk about the evidences he gave yesterday.

My questions:

1) Is this kind of "evidence session" held only for China, not any other countires?

2) If it is necessary for someone to join this session to testify, do you have anyone other than Dalai Lama? And why that person?
