奥运会金牌获得者、直言不讳的达尔富尔问题活动家Joey Cheek被中国大使馆吊销签证，这发生在这位速滑冠军准备飞往中国的几个小时之前。他甚至没有打算在到达那里之后带上口罩。

中国官员不需要任何理由就可以吊销任何人的签证，但是在他们眼中，抢走Cheek签证的理由却是是充足的。他是“达尔富尔之队”的创办者，这个组织由70名运动员组成，旨在唤起全球社会对苏丹达尔富尔发生的人权践踏行为的关注。而中国与苏丹在军事、经济和外交上的紧密联系在赛事之前就被广泛报道了。

在一份事先准备好的声明中，Cheek对这个禁令评价到：

我对不能出席赛会而感到遗憾。奥林匹克运动代表了这样一种力量：来自于全世界的人可以聚聚一堂，并且做他们原来认为不可能的事情。中国政府试图压制和恐吓那些“为达尔富尔无辜人民仗义执言”的运动员，而拒绝我的签证则是这种有预谋的压制工作的一部分。


Cheek曾准备去中国支持那些参加了“达尔富尔之队”的运动员——包括足球运动员阿比、瓦姆巴赫（大家注意这个人，译者），并且去推动他屡获冠军的（速度滑冰）事业。在获得都灵冬奥会金牌后，Cheek曾宣布他将捐出美国奥委会奖励的25000美元奖金给达尔富尔并说服他的赞助人同样如此。看上去Joe Cheek真是一个好人。

而现在，即使是他到了中国也不能入境。当赛事逐渐临近（只剩两天），为了专注于赛事本身，全世界似乎忘记了中国所有的问题。不幸的是，中国的做法使之成为了泡影。在我们本应猜测谁将点燃奥运主火炬时候，猜测麦克、菲尔普斯是否能打破世界记录的时候，猜测刘翔如何面对时刻关注他的13亿同胞带来的压力的时候，我们却在谈论中国政府不允许不同意见出现在他们的国家，尽管他们一再承诺当奥林匹克来到北京时会取消管制。

目前更难控制的不是这些散兵游勇，而是被压抑多年的民族情绪，会因这一个人而爆发。
大街上的中国人不会去听他是什么观点，只要他写上 evil china, 无情的红旗会从他身上踩过。
然后西媒会再次控诉中国政府煽动和策划了这么一个事件。

The case was torn apart by the judge for offering NO evidence other than that they said he had "admitted to". the man of course, retracted his "confession" on
the grounds it was tortured out of him.

The judge's 35 page summing up tore Gates and his gang of so called lawyers apart for presenting such an appallingly weak case. He referred to "Alice in Wonderland" when pointing out that they sited information sources that were indeed themselves . As the judge said "Just because the president says something 3 times does not mean it is true".

He threw out the case and ordered the man's release to "Any country other than China or one of it's satellites". He has still not been released, nor has any of the other Chinese muslims they are currently torturing. We will see, if this latest fit up makes it to appeal (bin laden's driver) . If so, it will also be thrown out for total lack of evidence.

THAT is what we should be protesting about, inside or outside bush's "Freedom of speech zones".

一个打着参加奥运的旗号，却进行着政治活动的人，有什么好抱怨的。很奇怪的是运动员不就是参加比赛吗？为什么还要扯进去那么多的政治的东西。西藏同胞都对我说他们告诉外国人他们是中国人，那么还有谁在要求西藏独立？又来折腾这些活动，他们应该去联合国抗议，而不是利用奥运会。　I feel sick of this kind of things now. Go as far as you can.

AmyW was initially refused entry visa to US on the ground of (the rumour) processing drug, just completed a drug addition rehab clinic yet still facing charge at the time. The US embassy did revised the initial decision and granted her entry visa although this was too late for Amy to make the trip.

In Cheek's case, he engages in prompting political/humanitarian activities (I am not saying pro or anti any nation, regime) seemed far from a drug addition. This was suggested to be the ground that Chinese embassy denied his entry visa.

If 'engaging and prompting activities' that could harm the host nation's regime stability could be a charge to deny a visa, in Cheek's case this is certainly not placed on the table.

If there is no political factors in Beijing Olympics, why there would be such decision?

By denying the entry, Cheek has already won.

签证不涉及人权，一个国家没有义务给另一个国家的公民入境的权利。全世界都是如此。任何国家都可以不需给任何理由拒绝另一个国家的公民入境。欧盟内也一样，德国可以不允许英国人入境，你也无处可告。

这年头什么人也有。动动脑子。这个人不是本届奥运会的运动员/官员，申请的是旅游签证。据签的理由充分。
国人要去美国旅游签证据签，理由也不给，这 is certainly not placed on the table？

德国在世界杯期间也有英国足球流氓的黑名单，他们是不允许入境的。

没劲，弄了半天原来不是运动员。这有什么大惊小怪的，吊销签证的多了去了，主权国家有权利这么做。

运动员除非在海关被查出有禁药，带枪或者其他什么的是不会被据的，也不存在被据的问题。现在许多人靠北京奥运出名或者说是获利，种类繁多。可怜一些批判政府的国人，连事情都没搞清楚，就开骂了。
