In early 2006, the 2-year fixed rates offered go as low as 4.1%.

fixed rate at 6.09 is a pretty good deal. I could not find it on Natwest website however. where did you get it? Just curious..

I talked to a Natwest advisor early this week, they offer 6.59% two year fixed with arrangement fee.

it was 6.24% fixed for two years
but they lower it to 6.19% this Monday
plus, if you have their gold advantage card(which you need to pay £12.75 per month, at least for three months)
you will then have 6.09% rate...

I think you can do the same trick with HSBC, get a tenth discount if you have their fee-paying bank account plus, and another tenth (or 0.20?) if you are premier customer. I remember I've seen BoE rate + 0.69% for premier customers sometime last month not sure if it's gone though.

not everyone could get premier....

they did offer 0.10 discount for plus customer....to trade off the plus costs 12.95 per month....
