please give me some ideas sad.gif

I have applied a PhD in signal processing field, University of Cambridge and it has provided a conditional offer. There are two conditions. First of all, my undergraduate certification has to be at least 2.1. Secondly, I need financial outstanding (enough money). I would like to know if it means that I have no chance to get any project funding from them once they give this kind of conditional offer.

By the way, the most annoying thing (confuse me a lot) is that the offer is given as “NOT at first registered”. Any GG, JJ, DD, MM can tell me if it is wise (worth) to accept this offer?

thanks first,

I am afraid I have no experience in applying PHD course. I suggest you to phone the admission office to find out more.
I think you will still be able to get project funding from them with this kind of conditional offer.
And “NOT at first registered”? Again, phoning the admission office is the best way to find out the answer.
To my knowledge, the engineering department is very strong at signal processing. What's more? It's Cambridge! I would strongly suggest you to accept this offer providing that you fully understand the condition. smile.gif

thanks zzcjoe for your help. according to my proposed supervisor's answer, the "not register at first" is a usual way to provide a PhD. anyway, i think it is not a problem any more. are u a undergradute in U of Cam? how is the life there? so far, i am still waiting for a collageship, hope eveything will be fine.

thanks again, by the way, can i add ur ICQ into my list if u dun mind ?

I haven't started my study in Cambridge yet. My undergraduate course in Engineering will start this October. So we are entering the university at the same time. Hurray! cheers.gif
You can add my ICQ no. into your list. Unfortunately, I cannot use ICQ at my current school. So the best way to contact me is still by e-mail or coming to the forum. smile.gif

1. I am not in your field. So I can not give the opinion whether it is worthwhile to read.
2. Have you applied ORS? Usualy, ORS is the first step to get full finanical aid. But if you are lucky enough, you can also get full scholarship from your supervisor without ORS. The key thing depends on your supervisor.
3." NOT at first registered" is a common way for PhD students here. Do not worry!

Advice: Try to learn more information about your future supervisor. This is more important!

hi, blackice

As far as I know, most phD offers are like that. (1. Your undergraduate degree class, 2. Money).
I am not pessimistic, but I don't think you are still on time for the applications of most of the funding,
however, I think you can contact the admission as well as your proposed project supervisor (if any).

I am an EE graduate as well.
