As we know, "Chinese wall" refers to the information barrier between the market-making part of a stock-dealing firm and its broking part.

I just wonder that where does this name come from originally? Why do they term it “Chinese Wall” then????

Following the crash of 1929, the U.S government sought to provide a separation between investment bankers and brokerage firms in order to avoid the conflict of interest between objective analysis and the desire to have a successful stock offering. These regulations became known as the "Chinese Wall" because they were meant to create a barrier as effective as the Great Wall of China between the two operations.

The sales are responsible to sell the valueless to the clients while the "buy" side of the same firm buys any treasure before any of its clients

FYI: A real story is about a manager of a FSA licensed firm explained that an effective 'Chinese Wall' had been established 'between his left and right semi-brains'...his firm has few staff... laugh.gif
