Isn't it Sterling pound? I used it when I visited Belfast 2 years ago.
The old currency in Republic of Ireland should be the Irish punt, but it was replaced by Euro in 2002.
well, i think 'punt' is the answer!
Thank you very much:)
But how about the nick of 'Northern Ireland'?

Do you like the program "who want to be a millinaire"
I guess you may have got the question wrong. Both of my English and Irish friends don't know there is any popular nickname for Northern Ireland. Though, indeed there's nickname "Eire" for Republic of Ireland.
A very good website about Eire:
Eire
thank roxy. You are very warm-hearted:)
I just feel a little curious and since I came to UK
I'd better know it more
You may be right. I perhaps misunderstood the question:)

Xiaoyu, I think you probably did not get the question right at the first place. I asked Lovely Taoyan and another English student in my office, they both do not know.
However, one of them searched Google, and got Northern Isles. Does this sound familiar to you?

Anyway, it doesn't matter since my brother-in-school who graduagted from Northern Ireland don't know it, hehe.

There isn't a nickname for 'Northern Ireland'.
However Northern Ireland is often referred to as Ulster, which itself is an ancient province of Ireland, geographically located in the northeastern part of the island. Due to "historic" reasons, the Ulster Province has been divided between UK and Ireland, and now only three counties out of nine - Cavan, Donegal, and Monaghan - are part of the Irish Republic.
p.s.
Have you ever heard of Ulster Unionists Party (UUP) or Ulster Bank or University of Ulster?
