Kevin Keegan's delight at the Blues victory over Chelsea was tempered with the news that Jihai Sun has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The defender was drafted into midfield in the absence of the injured Claudio Reyna and Joey Barton.
But he was substituted at the close of the first half damaging his knee in a collision.
"It is devastating news for him and the side. He has done both his cruciate and medial ligaments so that is him for a year now," explained Kevin Keegan.
"It is a massive blow for him and all of us. We are a small squad and we need everyone fit.
"We are losing players when we cannot afford to but what we are finding is that players who are coming in are putting that shirt on and doing a job for the club. That tells you that we can maybe stand all these injuries."
The win was the first for City in the last five encounters with Chelsea in the Premiership.
Nicolas Anelka's eleventh minute penalty which won the match was also the first time that the striker has scored against the West London side. The French hitman has now scored against every Premiership side.
Kevin Keegan praised his striker and the work and commitment that the side showed.
"It was a great result," he added. "I think the work rate from the side today, their togetherness and spirit won us the day.
"We did the things you have to do to have a chance of beating them and when we needed a bit of luck or skill I should say David James came up with a great save.
"It was a terrific result and you could see how much the fans enjoyed it. We murdered them here last year and they won 1-0.
"We didn't murder them this year but we have won 1-0. It is a strange game football."
