Just phoned my folks, and dad told me that everyone in China will have to change to a new version( 2nd) chinese ID card in next JAN.
And the local police officer actually told my dad to ask me fly back to china next JAN to get my photo taken or my HU KOU might be cancelled.
I really donot understand all these.
To be honest, I wouldn't bother to fly back to China just to get my new ID card.
a few questions,
1, has anyone else heard about this?
2, my passport will be expired in 2007, just wondering somebody has already re-newed your passport here in the UK, do you need to provide your chinese ID card?
3, do we actually need that chinese ID card??

1.You definitely need your ID card, in case you have to go back to China.
2.You may take photo here, then send it back, remember it is colour and 2inch
3.You may ask your parents to pass the photo to local, try to be nice, may you need some extra help
4.In China, You should be easier to get thing done than here if not in order.

cus to be honest, I havn't used my ID card for a long time, even I was travelling in China, I still used my passport to check in at airport and hotels.
sometimes in China, if you need to show your ID, probably they wouldn't take passport cos they are not used to it. I experenced once in local small bank in China in trouble. Finally I managed to get through by using my passport, but it would be easier if I had my ID card with me. Although, if you are trying to do some investment in China by entrusting your parents or relatives, they need your entrustment certificate and your ID. My parents are helping some of my investment in China by my name. They are totally free of doing whatever they want under my name just simply by using my ID card and entrustment certificate.
To be honest, it is just like Chinese Culture.
If you don't want to do anything with China, or you have got UK passort already, you don't bother to go further anymore.
by the way, have you started you new job yet? Actually I am quite simillar with you. I have got job offer, but still waiting the start time.

my offer of employment letter says, I should start on the 29th NOV, but strangely, I havn't recieve my contract yet---I have no idea how is should be cus this is actually my first perm job in the U.K. the boss and the manager r all in Porland untill this Friday, so, I can contact nobody.
well, I have left my ID card with my folks before I left----actually I managed to get two ID cards, so, even I was travelling around china, they still have one ID of mine, just in case.
and I have also transfered all my stuff under my mum's name before I left. so, I donot really worry about those.
oh, now I remembered, once I try to cancel my mobile acc with china mobile,---it was in my mum's name. but mum was busy, so, I phoned china mobile, ask if I can use mum's passport instead of her ID, they said no. so, I asked to speak their manager and ask that guy to explain me why I cannot use passport, as offically, it is legal ID. They phoned me back in 5 mons, and did apologise,said they made a mistake.

妈妈也对我说了这件事，但是她只是说让我把照片寄回去，还是办一个比较好，因为总有一天我的中国护照会过期，到时候回国在国内总拿着英国护照很不方便的，比如有的酒店就收内宾价和外宾价。
