My laptop crashed yesterday, when i turn on the pc, it just shows me " application error ", then if you close it, it goes back again. I called the manafacturer, and was told to use recovery cd to reinstall everything. But i am afraid to lose all my files in the pc, and also when I bought it, there is no microsoft word in it, I asked a friend to use his own to install in mine. So, can anyone tell me what to do and where i can get microsoft to download to my pc and how i can save my files?

I have never used recovery cd, is it that if you insert the cd in the dvd rom, and turn on the pc, then i should follow the prompt or the application error will show again?

you need describe problem clearly.
1. turn on the pc? in which step? after the beeping or windows starting?
2. application error? if you close it(which sounds like windows command operation). the error message show again? you cannot do anything else?


as i guess, just because of your software problem. which is no necessary to use the backup disc.
1.find a temporary space to save your files(Flash disk or portable HDD)
2.turn on your computer, after beeping, press F8 key again and again, until a menu shows.
3. select safe mode, waiting for a moment. windows should run as normal. you can copy what you need to the temporary space.
4. you can try to find out where the problem is (such as recently installed software... or virus checking...)
5. or you can use the recovery disk to reinstall the whole system

when i turn on the pc, the window is starting up, then it shows " the instruction at ' ox77f581bf ' referenced memory at ' ox00708040 '. The memory could not be 'written '. Click ok to terminate the program.

whenever i click ok, it goes back from the beginning again and repeat the same thing all over again. Even once i manage to go to safe mode, still it goes back to this application error.

so , i really don't know what to do.

and i have never used receovery cd, do not know if i use it, everything will be gone.

You have better back up your important files to your portable hard drive, USB memory key or another computer hard drive via network.

First, try to enter the Safe Mode. When your computer is booting, press key "F8" constantly until the screen shows you a boot option list. Choose Safe Mode (or the one with networking function if you need networking your computer), then press Enter.

If you can enter the system successfully. Now copy your important files to another hard drive.Then you can use your recovery CD.

If there are still some problems using a Safe Mode, you need to boot your computer in DOS mode. In this case, you will have to use either a USB stick or a floppy disc, which has a copy of DOS startup files, to boot your computer. But you need to know the DOS commands before you can move your files to another hard drive. ( I am not sure the second solution does work cos this is a laptop but not desktop)

从错误提示看，可能是内存硬件出了问题。在启动WIN XP的时候按F8，然后在菜单里选安全模式试一下。如果这样也不行，可以找个有移动硬盘的朋友，把你的硬盘从本子里拆出来，装到移动硬盘盒里然后把数据备份在别人的机器里，如果有人愿意，你还可以换上他的内存条试一下，不过前提是内存类型要相同，没什么经验最好不要试。如果你装有两条内存，也可以调换内存位置试试看。如果是在英国本土买的新本子，通常会有保修的，不过保修可能要花时间，送过去后和他们说明白一定不要破坏硬盘数据，最好写在纸上。如果这些办法都不适合你，去PC WORLD或其他计算机专业店花点钱让他们给你看看。如果万一不幸，数据被弄丢了，再来这里发个帖子吧。

千万别轻易使用恢复光盘，通常它会把你的一切重要数据清掉。

我已经用recovery cd重新弄过了。所有的文件都没了。不过没关系，有些以前已经存在软盘上。只是有些程序的重新装过。可是每次开机时，都很慢。不知什么原因。明天休息，我再重新将所有的程序装过。是不是下载太多的程序会影响电脑的速度？还有您们用过东方快车下载软件没有，我觉得自从我用他下在电影之后，毛病多多，上网速度慢，电脑也一样。谢谢大家的支持。

i used recovery cd for my laptop, now the only problem is the internet ( btoadband ) is very slow, as to 2.40kbps. it is supposed to be up to 40 kbps. i check the problem, and said i should enable cookies and javascript. How do i do that? and another thing, where can i get free anti-virus software, does it affect the speed of the broadband?
