Tiger Woods has begun his bid for the Open Championship with eight birdies in a round of 66, for a two shot lead.
Steve Webster matched him after nine holes courtesy of two eagles, but has dropped strokes at the 10th and 11th.
Retief Goosen opened with a solid 68 to share second with a host of players including British hope Luke Donald and Scottish amateur Eric Ramsay.
Jack Nicklaus, in his final Open, carded a three-over 75, while defending champion Todd Hamilton posted a 74.
