Monday 3rd October, 12.00pm followed by a reception at 1.00 pm -- Playfair
Library Hall , University of Edinburgh, Old College, South Bridge
The University of Edinburgh and The 48 Group Club are pleased to announce
the inaugural Icebreaker lecture in Scotland. Minister Zhou Ji, Minister of
Education of the People's Republic of China will deliver a lecture
on:
Future trends in Chinese higher education and changing opportunities
for foreign educational establishments and businesses
The lecture is
presented with the generous support of the BRITISH COUNCIL and the SCOTTISH
EXECUTIVE
Within the context of the Chinese Government's aspirations for
the future of China, the Minister will discuss plans for education in
China and the educated workforce that will be available to foreign
business, as well as the development of relationships between Chinese
and Scottish universities as the Chinese educational establishment
develops in the future. The lecture will be of great value to all those
with a vested interest in the Chinese education system.
The "Icebreaker
lecture", commemorates the original Icebreaker mission of 1953, which
started the UK/China relationship, and those Chinese and British who had the
vision of a new China involved with the West, not isolated from the West.
Today icebreaking is as important as ever as we all need to know more and
more deeply about China, the rising nation. The 48 Group Club organises
these lectures. "The 48 Group" was the name that the British businessmen
chose for their trade association to promote trade with
China.
Edinburgh University has a positive relationship to developing
relations with China and hosts many hundreds of Chinese students and
exchange visitors each year. The British Council is the general host to
Minister Zhou Ji and is the focal point for educational and cultural links
between the UK and China. |
